Pretoria on MyPR: From Driver To Logistics Manager – How Webuycars Drives The Success Of Its Employees:
Andries Motswaledi Ntlatleng’s career path has been on an upward trajectory – when he joined WeBuyCars in 2006, he was a driver. He is now logistics manager of the group’s Centurion showroom, with responsibilities ranging from helping to oversee several WeBuyCars drivers, managing carrier companies from all nine provinces, and the supervision of fitting the cars into the Centurion showroom.
“I drove for Faan for over seven years and during that time he taught me that perseverance is a virtue, and how to stay humble. He taught me that all people should be treated equally, irrespective of race, colour, gender, or nationality, and that the main objective of the job is to make a deal happen in the most fair and honest manner,” says Andries. “Above all, what I love about WeBuyCars is that they are all about job creation for the society at large, even during these tough economic times.”
As a logistics manager, detail and organisation are key factors to Andries’ day-to-day responsibilities. He is in charge of planning daily routes for WeBuyCars drivers and making sure that WeBuyCars buyers are allocated with the appropriate number of drivers. It is also his responsibility to make sure that the carrier companies collect cars from outlying storage areas and bring them back to their main warehouses or when they collect newly purchased cars, all operations happen with maximum efficiency.
When asked about the logistics around fitting hundreds of cars in a showroom, Ntlatleng said, “While we rely very much on technology, it is definitely not as easy as it looks having to fit 1500 cars on a showroom floor. It’s also not as simple as driving them into the showroom and finding a parking space! I allocate bays for new arrivals, and once they have been priced and photographed, they are assigned a QR code. After parking the car, the driver will then associate the car by scanning the QR code on the parking bay and link it with the QR code on the windscreen of the car. This allows the salespeople to be able to see which car is parked at which parking bay, and at which warehouse. Then if the salesperson needs to demonstrate that car, it’s easy for him to find it where it is and to return it where it was.”
“I am forever grateful to Faan and Dirk for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I am just as much a car fanatic as Faan, so working in an industry that I love, definitely makes the job easier,” says Andries.
Andries has been employed by WeBuyCars for 15 years, thanks to a recommendation by a colleague of his, and he hasn’t looked back since.
