Dear Editor
The DA in Tshwane notes the resignation of Dr Murunwa Makwarela as Tshwane City councillor and the ANC-EFF’s Executive Mayor.
These last few days have been surreal and have left residents of Tshwane horrified, bemused, and justifiably confused. The departure from the scene of Dr Makwarela has been an undignified spectacle and an exhibition of the most brazen dishonesty that South Africans have come to expect from the ANC-EFF coalition of chaos and corruption.
It is becoming increasingly clear that Panyaza Lesufi has urgent questions to answer. Mr Lesufi, blurring the line between the interests of his party and the best interests if the people of Gauteng, unashamedly announced in his SOPA and subsequent public remarks the intent of the ANC-EFF coalition to capture local governments currently under DA-led Multi-Party governance.
Residents of Tshwane are justified in linking the political chaos inflicted on them over recent days with the unapologetic efforts of Mr Lesufi to disrupt local governance in Gauteng and allow the ANC-EFF coalitions of corruption to regain through thuggery and lies what the voters of Tshwane had denied them: the power to loot and leech whilst residents languish.
The DA will not allow Mr Lesufi’s cronies and puppets to hijack and sabotage at the expense of the people of Tshwane.
The immediate task now before Council is the election of a new Speaker, followed by the election of a new Executive. Residents of Tshwane deserve a constructive, competent, solvent, and honest Executive Mayor and city government. The DA, along with our Multi-Party Coalition allies, maintain our support for Cllr Cilliers Brink to lead the City’s government as Executive Mayor and give Tshwane a new start.
It’s time for credible leadership and delivery-focused government. It’s time for the ANC-EFF puppet show to leave town.
Regards
Cllr Jacqui Uys
DA Tshwane Ward Councillor
