Pretoria on MyPR: TECNO TAIVOS™ Lab: How signal processing and AI Imaging are building the ultimate selfie:

Global mobile brand is breaking new ground in camera technology thanks to cutting-edge research and analysis

Johannesburg, – The giant strides being made by global mobile brand TECNO in Africa are thanks in large part to its superior camera technology.

Earlier this year, Counterpoint Technology Market Research’s Market Pulse showed that TECNO surpassed Korean giant Samsung for handset sales in Africa in 2020, confirming its status as the Number 1 smartphone brand on the continent.

This year, TECNO intensified efforts in South Africa, growing its market share and recently launched two new models, the SPARK 7 Pro and the CAMON 17P, both of which are known for sleek design and sublime photograph and video quality.

The CAMON 17P boasts as the clearest selfie camera in its price segment, as it features a massive 6.8” Full HD and IPS Hole screen, 16MP Selfie Camera and 64MP AI Camera.

How TECNO produces cutting-edge AI-enhanced technology, lies in the brand’s TECNO TAIVOS™ Lab.

Established to enhance photography and videography through research and deep analysis, the lab has adopted a targeted, meticulous approach to provide users an unprecedented visual experience, especially at night and in low-light environments, in devices like the CAMON 17P.

One of the key markers of effective research development is the number of patents being applied for, and in this regard, the increasing number of patent applications expected to come from this dynamic and fertile idea generation test bed.

Hundreds of patent applications have already been made, with thousands more expected to emanate from this dynamic laboratory in the years ahead.

TECNO has invested heavily in imaging research centres and localised non-entity joint research institutions worldwide.

These centres complement the work being done at TECNO’s three core centres in China, and the results are plain to see.

More than 3 000 local samples with about 6,120 evaluation scenarios spanning 115 countries has enabled the TECNO team to identify what matters most to smartphone users.

In this way, researchers have been able to identify the overall social aesthetic ideology as well as subjective aesthetic preferences.

TECNO has also engaged individuals and organisations in the private and public sectors to gain valuable information and raw data about local and regional preferences.

Equipped with the 3A Algorithm and ISP (Image Signal Processor) module, all TECNO TAIVOS™-verified cameras can achieve a staggering 4 500 fine-tuning parameters.

Essentially, this technology is able to sharpen images. The Material Library inclusively extends over nine skin types and 76 categories.
These materials were used more than 1.3 billion times in 2020, with more than 24 million users accessing the library.

The upshot is that no matter what your skin tone, beauty can be enhanced effectively, whether it is day or night, making for the ultimate selfie.

The CAMON 17P’s Super Night Mode adds unrivalled clarity to photos. The 1.6?m camera lets in more light and optimises details against a low-light background.

It also boosts the quality dimensions of videography through features like anti-shake, texture, noise, colour and pseudo color, as well as the application of video, video night scene, video ZOOM and other scenes.

TECNO’s TAIVOS™ Lab has also made huge advances in Image Algorithm Technology.

Now included in the Camon range, the Galileo Algorithm Engine includes the “Moon Lock Focus System”, “Lunar Revolution Elimination Algorithm”, “Lunar Details Protection Algorithm” and “AI Deep Learning Enhancement Algorithm”.

These produce ultra-clear telescopic images from the smartphone’s camera.

The Pixel-Level Segmentation Algorithm Engine includes the “3D Depth Calculation Algorithm” and the “Detection and Recognition Calculation”, to achieve pixel-level image segmentation accuracy, which greatly augments large aperture shooting, portrait bokeh shooting, and magical sky effects.
These technologies have all distinguished TECNO products not as smartphones, but state-of-the-art cameras housed within a device.
