The third and final contest in the 2022 Rip Curl GromSearch will take place at Scottburgh in KZN on 24-25 September. This will bring to a close an exciting first year of the tour, with a bigger and better GromSearch in the plans for next year.

The first event in this junior surfing series occurred at Victoria Bay early in the year. It was a resounding success, with good surf at the point, excellent contest management and red-hot surfing from the best juniors in the country. This inaugural contest was a taste of what was to come.

After that, the series moved to Seal Point, Cape St Francis, where it once again enjoyed fantastic surf and an entire weekend of ripping despite poor weather. Some surfers repeated their excellent performances from the inaugural event. In contrast, others who exited the event early were sent home to possibly reassess their performances, equipment and contest strategies.

The final competition in the 2022 series will occur at Scottburgh, on the KZN South Coast. Featuring a right-hand sand-bottom point-break and warm water, ‘Scotties’ is one of the more popular South Coast surf breaks and is an ideal venue for such a tournament and conducive to high-performance surfing.

The tournament features U12, U14, U16 and U18 Girls and Boys divisions, and the competition is a full two days’ worth of competitive surfing.

The Rip Curl GromSearch series allows kids to compete against the best surfers in the same age bracket from their country. This format provides these groms with an insight into a life of competitive surfing and gives them the invaluable experience of surfing and competing in different waves around the country.

The Scottburgh contest is a Premier SAST event, with 1,000 points going to the winners and prize money as per premier events.

Entries for the event are open here – https://www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za/2022-rip-curl-gromsearch-scottburgh/

The results of all the heats and the final will be available by clicking the LIVEHEATS box on the www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za website.
