Heather gave an after school talk on carbon cycling to a group of high school learners (students) in the Mamalodi township. After the lecture, we went outside and did a lab experiment with dirt samples, comparing the fraction of carbonaceous material under trees and in open spaces. The learners enjoyed it and they asked some really good questions. This was at the Mae Jemison Science Reading Room, which is funded by the US Embassy through the University of Pretoria.
