Pretoria – Police have put together a team of detectives to investigate the death of a Moroccan consul, whose body was found at a guesthouse in Pretoria on Tuesday.
Police say they are awaiting post-mortem results on 40-year-old Fatmi Noureddine.
The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.
Noureddine was the First Secretary responsible for Consular Affairs at the Moroccan Embassy in Pretoria.
Meanwhile, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation has also has referred this matter to the Diplomatic Policing Unit, which will also investigate the matter.
This, according to spokesperson Nelson Kgwete, is to “ensure that those responsible are held accountable for this heinous crime”.
“The department prioritises the safety and security of diplomats and to this end, is engaging the security cluster to take the necessary measures to protect our guests in South Africa,” Kgwete said.
The South African government also sent its condolences to Noureddine’s family, his colleagues and the government of Morocco. – SAnews.gov.za
