Country pubs such as this one at Gosford were often located in prime spots around town. Often close by the railway station, they were usually the only place where weary travellers could get a decent meal, before going off to transact other business, seek a job or meet their families.
Pub breakfasts were usually big and fatty, with sausages, bacon, steak and eggs, lamb’s fry and other delicacies. The dining rooms in Hotels were probably the single most refined and gentile spot in early country towns.
