We were lucky enough to be able to visit two great motorcycle museums on our trip. We went to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum (this one) in Pickerington, Ohio, and the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa.
1963-77 100" H-D Knucklehead
This bike is often described Arlen Ness’s first bike. In the old days, Ness rebuilt the same bike year after year because it’s what he could afford. He bought this as a slightly used Knucklehead in 1963 and rebuilt and repainted it every year until 1977 when it took the form seen here. Over the years it had Sportster tanks and Tombstone tanks, ape hangers and drag bars, was painted purple, yellow, and blue, and had a 1960s-style picture of his wife painted on it for several years.
