As the Easter weekend approaches, the IFP has made calls for an increased police presence on the country’s roads, but specifically the notorious Moloto Road, which runs from Mpumalanga to Pretoria and is used by thousands of people every day.
“How many more lives have to be lost before the government takes decisive action to put an end to the carnage once and for all?” asked IFP spokesperson on Transport, Mr Petros Sithole.
“We need visible policing and law enforcement to address the unfit public transport vehicles and dangerous driver behaviour on our roads. Moloto Road has become a place of death – many people have lost their lives there”
The IFP also calls for the speedy implementation of the much-delayed Moloto Rail Corridor.
“We continue to call for a lifetime ban for drunk drivers, by making sure that drunk drivers’ licences are revoked and never renewed. Nor should they be allowed to apply for permits to drive on the roads” said Sithole.
