Great Conditions Forecast For Rip Curl GromSearch Surfing Event #1, Schedule Is Live

What competition is it?
The Rip Curl GromSearch #1 is the first contest of the 2023 Rip Curl GromSearch Series in South Africa. Here is the full calendar
Series Calendar 2023
- Rip Curl GromSearch #1: Feb 3/5 – Long Beach, Kommetjie.
- Rip Curl GromSearch #2: March 11/12 – Victoria Bay
- Rip Curl GromSearch #3: April 1/2 – Scottburgh
- Rip Curl GromSearch #4: July 29/30 – Port Alfred
- Rip Curl GromSearch #5: 31 September/1 October – Seal Point, Cape St Francis.
When is it?
The competition is a three-day tournament, kicking off on Friday, 3 February, at 8am. Friday will see U12 Boys, U14 Boys, and U16 Boys and Girls competing. The event schedule can be found on the LiveHeats link here – https://liveheats.com/events/95153/schedule
Where is it being held?
The Rip Curl GromSearch #1 will take place at Long Beach, Kommetjie. The swell charts look favourable, with a ground swell set to fill in this afternoon (Thursday) and event organisers expect great surfing conditions for the tournament’s start tomorrow.

What else?
This year will see some significant changes to the Rip Curl GromSearch Series, with the most notable being:
- The premier division of the series is the U16 division. The U12 and U14 divisions are therefore allowed to surf in their divisions, as well as the U16 division.
- There will be series winners this year, and the top four results out of five will determine the 2023 Rip Curl Gromsearch Series Results.
The Rip Curl GromSearch contests are all Premier SAST events, with 1,000 points going to the winners and prizemoney per Premier events.
