Garden Route Golfers Hit the Sweet Spot for Song Vir Nonna

19 March 2026 3:19 pm

Aspiring home-grown Garden Route musicians will sound sweeter thanks to the support provided by local golfers and businesses for the 2025 Algoa FM Charity Golf Day.

Youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds participating in the Song vir Nonna programme will now have higher grade equipment for their concerts and to record their music and songs.

Song vir Nonna run weekly songwriting workshops at Môreson ACVV Child and Youth Care Centre and the Carpe Diem school for special needs.

There are plans to expand the programme to other Garden Route schools.

“We at Song vir Nonna are humbled by the overwhelming support we received from all the golfers and corporates who participated in the golf day,” says Song vir Nonna founder Regard Grobler.

“I would like to thank everyone who invested in our vision. Your contribution means everything to us.

“Then a massive shout out to Algoa FM for spreading the love, you made it all possible. The new equipment will enable us to capture traumatic emotions and then turn them into beautiful transformative productions giving our students a voice of their own and healing through the process of writing meaningful songs.

“Now they will be able to tell their empowering stories to the world and who knows, maybe uplift someone in need like they manage to do every time we sit down to compose a new song together.”

“As a music radio station, we understand the power of words when they are combined with melodies. There is no better way to express yourself or to reach others with your message,” says Algoa FM managing director Alfie Jay.

“A big ‘thank you’ to all those businesses and golfers who supported our annual golf day in 2025, and for the way you have embraced Algoa FM in the Garden Route,” he adds.

Algoa FM has been voted George’s favourite local radio station for two years in a row.
