Freedom Front Plus Will Not Attend Tshwane’s Special Council Meeting

22 September 2026 1:27 pm

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) caucus will not attend Tshwane’s special council meeting tomorrow to elect a new chief whip.

Last month, the Metro announced that the position of chief whip is vacant after Molatelo Mashola was appointed as the interim Mayoral Committee Member for Utility Services. The former Mayoral Committee Member, Frans Boshielo, was unexpectedly removed from his office without an explanation.

In the Freedom Front Plus’s view, it is senseless and needless to appoint a new chief whip at this time.

The chief whip currently has no pressing duties to fulfil seeing as tomorrow’s council meeting is the last one before the local government elections on 4 November.

The Freedom Front Plus considers the appointment a waste of time and tax money. An ordinary councillor earns significantly less than the chief whip. The Freedom Front Plus will not endorse such a senseless decision.

Freedom Front Plus Manifesto: The FF Plus advocates for a federal system of government in South Africa.
