All-time February sales record for Ford dealers at 5 705, 36% up on 2014

2 March 2015 6:16 pm

PRETORIA, South Africa, 03 March 2015 – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) continues the strong momentum in South Africa’s automotive sector by notching up another month of record sales and capturing 13.8% of the market.

The February 2015 industry sales figures, released by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), show Ford achieved an impressive 28% increase in volume compared to the same month last year. Sales were also up by 12% with 686 units, relative to January 2015.

“Our dealers had a great February setting an all-time sales record for total monthly sales through the dealer channel of 5 705,” says Mark Kaufman, Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Service, FMCSA. “Our dealers are really motivated right now as they see the benefits of our global product line up and smart technology features. They are doing a great job converting shoppers into Ford customers. We want to help them sustain the momentum by introducing 10 new vehicles in 2015.”

*According to NAAMSA, total new vehicle sales were up 1.1% recording 52 368 vehicles. The new car market recorded modest gains at 34 909 vehicles or an increase of 1.5% compared to the 34 384 new cars sold in February last year. Domestic sales climbed up 1.8% to 14 871.

February saw yet another stellar performance from the EcoSport nameplate, Ford’s leader in the compact SUV segment. January’s record EcoSport sales were surpassed last month by 100 units as 1 318 EcoSport models found new buyers.

The Ranger maintained its status as one of the leading contenders in the light commercial segment and in the overall market as the number one selling nameplate through the retail channel. With its record-breaking dealer sales and its fourth month exceeding 3 000 units on a final tally of 3078, the Ranger numbers show continued consumer demand.

On the new model front, Ford introduced the updated Kuga during February. In March the Transit Connect compact panel van, Tourneo Connect compact MPV and the new Focus will be making their debut.
