Pretoria on MyPR: 25-Year-Old Is the Youngest Black Woman to Own a Sausage Saloon Franchise.:
Rixongile Nobulelo Ngobeni, 25, became the youngest black woman to own a Sausage Saloon franchise during the Covid-19 year, 2020. Rixongile, born and bred in Giyani, Limpopo; was introduced to franchise ownership when her father pursued and owned his first franchise thirteen years ago.
“It may look rosy now, but I had to go through the hardest challenges as a South African young black woman. This includes me leaving a Bsc Degree in Biochemistry during my third and final year of study, trusting that I was not making a mistake when I chose to study business from scratch” shares Ngobeni. In 2018, Ngobeni graduated from the Nelson Mandela University with a degree in Bcom Business Management and Economics. She furthered her studies the following year by enrolling for a Bcom Honours in Business Science at the University of Witwatersrand and completing it.
She began to work with reputable public figures and private companies in 2019 which was the same year she launched one of the most reputable clothing brands in the Tsonga “tribe”. The brand is a well-known Xitsonga fashion brand named “Swa Koteka” meaning “It’s possible”. The businesswoman later decided to pursue something bigger than her experience and current capability, and her tenacity bore fruits of gracefully owning a well-known franchise in the busiest city in South Africa, Johannesburg.
“I was once scared of sharing information regarding me owning such a well-known business because I guess I constantly chose to believe a negative narrative that substantiates black people as being jealous of each other, instead of the positive narrative; where the same people could also support and cheer each other on”, she said.
Ngobeni advises people about the importance of taking risks in business, which is sometimes the only way you get to play the game and excel in it: “I have worked hard to be where I am, but I’m definitely sure God played a huge role in the rest. Pray about your business, and for your business. God sends everyone on a different journey in life and I will not be silent nor secretive anymore, because I know this is my journey; I was born for this”.
The franchise owner credits God, her father, sister, mentors and friends, who have influenced her journey towards owning the franchise. She is aware of how vital mentorship and close support has been for her budding career.
She believes every young person can desire to own such a shop, and still succeed in the game. Boulders Mall is where the shop is located, and she would love to see many other young people cheering her on by purchasing a meal when they pass by Boulders Shopping Centre.
“We have to succeed, and supporting each other is one of the many ways of doing it, so South Africa; meet the 25 year old Rixongile Ngobeni who may well be the youngest black woman to own a Sausage Saloon in South Africa”, said Rixongile.
