The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane District warns members of the public about a man who is allegedly posing as a certain Captain Dlamini in the police, offering people employment in the Service in exchange for money.
It is alleged that the man communicates with members of the public and tells them that interviews for SAPS positions will be conducted at Hammanskraal police station. He further claims that he can arrange for people to be appointed without going through the interview process, provided that they pay him a certain amount of money.
The SAPS would like to warn the public not to fall for this scam. The recruitment and promotion process in the SAPS does not require anyone to pay money in order to secure employment or get promotion in the Service. No person can buy a position in the SAPS, and nobody has the authority to guarantee anyone employment in exchange for payment.
Members of the public who are interested in joining the SAPS are urged to follow the official recruitment process and only use information provided through official SAPS recruitment channels.
Community members should be cautious of anyone who promises them a job in exchange for money.
Anyone who has already paid money to this person, or to anyone else who promised them employment in the SAPS, is urged to report the matter to the police and open a case for investigation. Members of the public should provide any information they have, including proof of payment, messages, contact numbers and other communication with the suspect.
The SAPS appeals to community members to share this warning with family and friends, particularly those who may be looking for employment, to prevent them from falling victim to this scam.
