Tap Water Must ONLY be Used for Flushing Toilets

4 November 2026 5:29 pm

The City of Tshwane and Rand Water are aware of reports that water is flowing from taps in parts of Zithobeni Extension 1. Residents are strongly warned that this water may ONLY be used for flushing toilets. It must not be used for any other purpose, including drinking, cooking, preparing food, bathing, showering, brushing teeth, washing dishes or doing laundry.

The Bronkhorstspruit water supply system is still undergoing flushing, testing and water quality checks. Water reaching household taps during this process does not mean that it is safe to use.

This restriction applies across Bronkhorstspruit and Zithobeni. Should water reach your taps during the testing phase, use it ONLY for flushing toilets. Rand Water has not yet confirmed that the water is safe for human consumption.

Technical teams continue to flush reservoirs and the bulk water system and carry out frequent water quality tests. These steps are necessary to confirm that the water meets the required safety standards.

The toilet-flushing-only restriction remains in place until the City of Tshwane and Rand Water issue an official notice lifting it. Please share this message with neighbours and others who may not have received the alert. Further updates will be issued as flushing, testing and verification progress. We recognise the hardship caused by this prolonged disruption, apologise for the inconvenience and thank affected residents for their patience, understanding and cooperation.
