PRETORIA, South Africa – A new comprehensive veterinary directory, SAVET, has officially launched in South Africa. The free digital platform is designed to help pet owners quickly locate verified veterinary clinics, specialized animal hospitals, and 24/7 emergency care facilities across all nine provinces.
Finding immediate veterinary assistance during a pet medical emergency, particularly after hours or outside of major city centres, remains a significant challenge for many South Africans. SAVET addresses this issue by centralizing data from hundreds of veterinary practices into an easily searchable, location-based database.
The platform allows users to filter their search by specific medical needs and facility types, including 24-hour emergency services, mobile vets, and equine or farm animal specialists. Users can navigate the directory by province, city, or specific suburb, ensuring that critical contact details, physical addresses, and operating hours are accessible within seconds on both desktop and mobile devices.
Beyond assisting pet owners, the platform provides a streamlined infrastructure for the South African veterinary profession. Clinic administrators and veterinary professionals can claim and manage their public listings. To maintain data integrity and public trust, the platform requires professionals to verify their identity using their South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) registration numbers.
“The primary objective of SAVET is to remove the friction of finding appropriate veterinary care when time is of the essence,” stated the SAVET development team. “By providing a verified, structured, and easy-to-navigate directory, the platform aims to support both pet owners and the dedicated veterinary professionals serving communities across the country.”
The SAVET directory is now live, free to use for the public, and continuously updating its database of registered veterinary practices.
