Statement by Ald Cilliers Brink – DA Tshwane Mayoral Candidate:
This morning, Mayor Nasiphi Moya appeared at a press conference about revelations made at the Madlanga Commission about tender rigging in Tshwane only to confirm that she has no intention to champion a clean administration.
Seated next to Moya was Eugene Modise, ANC regional chairperson, deputy mayor, and Member of the Mayoral Committee for Finance.
Credible information, including a forensic report by the Tshwane Metro, indicates that Modise benefits unlawfully from tenders with the municipality while in a political office.
As has been revealed at the Madlanga Commission, Triotic Protection Services is one of the companies that has benefitted from the extension of an expired tender.
Modise’s undisclosed interest in Triotic Protection Services has not been divested, and it seems he also owns another company doing business with Tshwane under a water tanker tender.
Modise’s presence at the Mayor’s press conference is a not just an assertion of his political seniority over the Mayor, it’s also a mockery of the public that Tshwane’s mayoral committee is meant to serve.
While Moya was quick to suspend Tshwane’s MMC for corporate service, Kholofelo Morudi, she continues to make excuses as to why Modise continues to preside in the City’s critical finance portfolio.
The DA has been informed that our motion for the City to deal comprehensively with findings at the Madlanga Commission, including allegations against politicians of the ANC-led coalition, will be disallowed by the speaker of Tshwane.
The government led by Mayor Nasiphi Moya is a coalition of corruption, and the conduct of their office bearers today confirm this.
