Moreletapark, Elardus Park and Erasmuskloof Power Outages

12 August 2026 6:11 pm

The City’s technicians are working tirelessly to resolve the Pretoria East power outages which have plagued the area since Monday, 10 August 2026.

The team received the first outage report from Mooikloof Substation on Monday, 10 August 2026, which is one of the two substations feeding Moreletapark. Only a portion of the area was affected. Technicians managed to identify the faulty cable which caused the trip and isolated it from the panel. The area was switched back on via backfeed and all consumers who are supplied by Mooikloof Substation were restored.

Another power trip took place at Wingate Substation on the same day, 10 August 2026, affecting another portion of Moreletapark, Elardus Park, Erasmuskloof, Rietvalleirand and Rietvlei Rural Line.

Technicians isolated the faulty local cable from Panel 10 of Holgate Substation. The area was switched back and power restored to some consumers, however, residents supplied from Holgate Substation will remain off until the repair work is completed.

Yesterday, 11 August 2026, the team received another power trip report from Mooikloof Substation, which affected the other portion of Moreletapark. Investigations revealed that there was an overload due to the out-of-service first main feeder cable creating abnormal conditions. The area was switched back in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, 12 August 2026, restoring power partially to Moreletapark customers.

The outage has also affected 11 medium-voltage boxes (mini substations). The teams are currently on-site attending to the faulty main feeder cable.

Our technicians will continue to work tirelessly to restore power supply to all customers who are still without electricity. The exact estimated time of restoration will only be determined once the bulk of the repair work has been done.

The expectation is to bring all outstanding consumers online today.

The City once more apologises for the inconvenience that has been caused by the extended outages in the midst of a biting cold front and pleads for patience from the affected customers.

Customers will be regularly updated on the latest developments.
