Menlyn Park Shopping Centre has partnered with uRun+ for the second edition of the uRun+ Maze Run, bringing a unique, high-energy fitness experience to Pretoria and reinforcing the centre’s commitment to creating experiences that extend beyond traditional retail.
Held at Menlyn Park on Friday, 28 August, the Maze Run challenged participants to navigate a unique maze-style course combining endurance, speed, teamwork and strategy. The event brought together 1,000 participants across different fitness levels, with 2.5 km and 5 km race formats giving both competitive runners and fitness enthusiasts an opportunity to take part.
Unlike a traditional running event, the Maze Run created a festival-like atmosphere at The Menlyn Park parking area, combining music, lights and entertainment with the excitement of the race. The format was designed to make running more accessible, social and engaging, giving participants an opportunity to challenge themselves while enjoying a completely different race experience.
For Menlyn Park, the partnership forms part of its broader approach to creating lifestyle-led experiences that give customers new reasons to visit, connect and engage with the centre.
“Menlyn Park is committed to creating experiences that extend beyond shopping and bring people together around the things they enjoy. The uRun+ Maze Run offered our customers and the wider Pretoria community an opportunity to experience fitness in a completely different way – combining running, entertainment, teamwork and fun. We are proud to partner with uRun+ and to bring experiences like this to Menlyn that encourage people to connect, participate and create memorable moments together,” said Nisha Kemraj, General Manager of Menlyn Park Shopping Centre.
The Maze Run also reflects the changing nature of fitness events, with organisers increasingly finding ways to make participation more experiential and inclusive. The combination of individual races and relay formats allowed participants to take on the challenge according to their own fitness levels, while the atmosphere at The Menlyn Park parking created an experience for spectators as well.
“The Maze Run is about creating a different kind of running experience. It brings together endurance, strategy, teamwork and entertainment in a format that challenges participants while making the experience enjoyable and accessible. Partnering with Menlyn Park has allowed us to bring the event to a vibrant environment where participants, friends, families and spectators can all be part of the experience,” said Ruhan Thomas, Project Lead uRun+.
The partnership between Menlyn Park and uRun+ highlights the evolving role of shopping centres as destinations for experiences that bring together retail, lifestyle, wellness, sport and entertainment.
As Menlyn Park continues to explore new ways of connecting with its community, partnerships such as the Maze Run demonstrate how the centre can provide a platform for experiences that encourage people to participate, connect and enjoy the moments that matter to them.
