Garden Route and Eastern Cape Cities Turn Pink on Saturday

22 October 2025 11:44 am

The streets of George, Gqeberha, East London, and towns like Fort Beaufort, will be turning pink on Saturday, October 25, with thousands of participants walking in support of the annual Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer presented by Isuzu Motors South Africa.

A record number of entries were received for the charity event, which is now in its 27th year. The event is raising funds in aid of Siyavuka for kids, Project Flamingo, and Reach for Recovery, according to Algoa FM managing director Alfie Jay.

Road closures can be anticipated along the Gqeberha beachfront between the Boardwalk Hobie Beach entrance (opposite Astron) and the intersection between Admiralty Way and Marine Drive, as around 17 000 people walk in step for five kilometres to support those affected by cancer.

No road closures will take place in either George or East London.

Entertainment for the young and young at heart will be on display in Gqeberha, with food stalls available at all three venues.

The weather is predicted to be ideal for walking in all three cities.
