Dear Editor
The Tshwane Metro will show no mercy to Metro Police members guilty of irregularities and crimes.
This was demonstrated over the past three weeks with the arrest of 15 Tshwane Metro Police members for various offences, including armed robbery, bribery, intimidation, corruption, kidnapping, theft at, among other places, businesses, and possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and drugs.
Six of the 15 members are from Pretoria East, six from Centurion, one from Pretoria Central, one from Pretoria North and one from Hammanskraal.
Three of the members’ bail applications were denied and they are still in custody.
Disciplinary steps were instituted against all the members and all of them were suspended.
Disciplinary hearings will be held independently from the criminal hearings.
The FF Plus wants to thank the Tshwane Metro Police and police officers who helped to apprehend the suspects.
This ‘clean up’ operation will be implemented in all the Tshwane Metro departments. No mercy and no tolerance will be shown to officials who are guilty of criminal conduct.
The Tshwane Metro also plans to launch a #No Tjo-Tjo campaign soon, during which the Metro Police will inform motorists of what their rights are when they are stopped by a Metro Police member.
The Tshwane Metro aims to eradicate dishonesty and corruption, roots and all, from the Metro Police to win back the public’s faith.
The Tshwane Metro’s coalition government, of which the FF Plus is a partner, strives to establish a clean and pure government, and will not tolerate covert crime among those who are supposed to protect and serve the community.
