Police warn unruly fans at MTN 8 match

Pretoria – Police are set to spoil the mood for unruly soccer fans and criminal elements during the MTN 8 second leg semi-final match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Police have warned that fraudsters, criminal elements and those fans, who will come drunk at Orlando Stadium, will not escape the full might of the law. There will also be police deployments on the perimeters of the stadium to deal with illegal liquor outlets and selling of fake goods.

“Every effort will be made to prevent any unauthorized entry into the stadium. Undercover police officers will also be deployed in and around the stadium to make sure that unruly elements are brought to book,” said SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

He encouraged soccer fans without valid tickets to stay away from the stadium and discouraged them from buying tickets at a black market as they may be fraudulent and that may lend them into trouble with the law.

“Soccer fans in possession of fraudulent tickets will not be sent away but will be taken into custody and charged with fraud,” said Dlamini.

The match will be played on Tuesday at the Orlando Stadium. – SAnews.gov.za
